The Singapore Travel: Never Do in Singapore

Bring in Chewing Gum (See my previous posts for details)

Don't bring chewing gum or chew it in Singapore. Guess why? The penalty for smuggling chewing gum into the country is one year of prison and 10 thousand Singapore dollars fine.

Eat inside the MRT

Another thing to take note of is eating inside the Mass-Rapid-Transit (MRT) system. You shouldn’t do it by any means. Never! Otherwise, you’ll be fined. Immediately! There is a S$500 fine if you eat anything inside the train. So, if you're hungry, take off the train and find some suitable place to have a snack. There are a lot of them in Singapore.

Drink inside a public bus

If you are going on an excursion by bus, be sure not to drink bear or anything else during your trip. Otherwise, you’ll be met by police at the end of your trip.

Litter

This one is extremely embarrassing and unpleasant if you're caught. Anyone caught littering in Singapore's streets will be issued a Corrective Work Order (CWO). That means having to wear a CWO jacket and being made to sweep public roads or clean up litter as a form of community service.

Smoke in Air-Conditioned Places

If you smoke, be sure you step outside a building to smoke. Smoking within air-conditioned areas in Singapore is not allowed. There is a S$700 fine if you do it. There are special places for smoking all over the city. Look for tall green or silver dustbins with a metal plate on the top.

Jaywalk

Jaywalking across public roads is also not allowed. While the traffic police are usually not very vigilant, if you are caught, be prepared to pay a hefty fine too. So better use the traffic lights or overhead bridges. So, as you can see, Singapore is full of strict laws. And if you come here on holiday, be so kind as to observe its laws. You may not agree to this laws but don’t spoil your Singapore travel.
