SINGAPORE: A new A*STAR institute has opened at the Biopolis, and it will focus on critical diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and Parkinson's.
The Institute of Medical Biology (IMB) wants to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical medicine.
It is undertaking research in clinical problems to allow doctors to explore and apply new therapeutic strategies or even cures.
The IMB also brings the patient's disease-oriented problems from the bedside into the laboratories. This is to help it get a better understanding of the diseases and find ways to treat them.
The IMB has 13 laboratory groups and employs 120 staff. - CNA/ms
